Health, well-being of my constituents remain my top priority – Rep Akiba

… Enrols 2000 constituents on free health insurance

In a momentous occasion that marks a significant stride towards healthcare accessibility, the federal lawmaker representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep. Bassey Akiba, has successfully enrolled 2000 constituents on free health insurance under the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) platform.

Organized by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA), the well-attended enlightenment and documentation exercise which took place at the famous Adiabo Town Hall in Odukpani LGA was met with palpable excitement and gratitude from beneficiaries who stand to gain improved access to essential and free medical services.

According to The Bridge Media, the facilitator of the programme and Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, Rep. Bassey Akiba, in his address, said the health insurance is designed to provide unhindered access to quality medical care, ensuring that beneficiaries receive comprehensive health services.

In the words of Rep. Bassey Akiba, “The health and well-being of my constituents remain my top priority.

Access to quality medical care is a fundamental right, and we must work together to ensure that every individual can receive the healthcare they deserve without the burden of financial stress.”

Earlier, the Director General, Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Vivien Otu, commended Rep. Bassey Akiba for prioritizing the health of his constituents.

She acknowledged the lawmaker’s free medical outreaches and recent renovation and provision of medical equipment worth millions of naira to 6 Primary Healthcare Centres across his federal constituency.

Stakeholders including the Cross River NHIA Coordinator, Mr. Stanley Efa, hailed Rep. Bassey Akiba’s impactful representation, adding that the health insurance will cover a range of free medical services, including diagnosis, consultations, medication, surgical operations, and referrals, aiming to address various health challenges faced by the people.

The enthusiastic beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation for Rep. Bassey Akiba’s laudable initiative. “This programme means so much to us. It provides peace of mind knowing that we can seek medical help without the fear of financial burden. God bless Rep. Bassey Akiba.”
