Heavenly 100th Birthday: Tributes Pour In for Pioneer Educationist, Chartered Accountant and Ijaw Statesman Pa Newton Igali

Warm tributes have continued to pour in as family members, associates, and well-wishers commemorated the posthumous 100th birthday of the late Pa Newton Aaron Amie Igali, ACCA, FCCA, celebrating an extraordinary life devoted to education, professional excellence, public service, community leadership, and Christian ministry.

The centenary celebration reflected not only on the longevity of his life but also on the depth of his contributions to society, which many described as both historic and transformational.
Remembered as one of the foremost educationists of his generation, Pa Igali served as a pioneering head teacher in Yenagoa Province during the 1950s, where he laid strong educational foundations for countless young people.
His commitment to the advancement of the Ijaw people was equally acknowledged through his active participation in advocacy efforts for the creation of Rivers State while in the United Kingdom during the early 1960s.
His professional career was distinguished by several pioneering achievements. He emerged as one of the earliest Chartered Accountants from old Rivers State through ACCA qualification and later attained Fellowship status, becoming one of the region’s foremost accounting professionals.
His appointments as pioneer Chief Accountant of the Rivers State Transport Corporation and pioneer Bursar of the College of Science and Technology—now Rivers State University—were widely acknowledged as defining moments in institutional development.
Outside public office, Pa Igali earned respect as a successful entrepreneur, community leader, mentor, and committed Anglican Christian whose unwavering faith inspired many to embrace lives of honesty, compassion, and dedicated service.
Family members described him as a man whose character spoke louder than words, noting that he consistently demonstrated humility, integrity, generosity, and uncommon leadership throughout his lifetime.
They affirmed that although he has gone to be with the Lord, his remarkable achievements and exemplary lifestyle remain enduring sources of inspiration.
Offering prayers for his peaceful rest, the family concluded their centenary tribute by reaffirming that Pa Newton Aaron Amie Igali’s name will forever occupy a place of honour in the annals of education, professional accountancy, community leadership, and Christian service.
