Serving Corp Member Saves Pupils from Open Defecation in Jos
A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Oluwagbemisola Blessing Oluwalola, has made a significant impact in Jos, North Local Government Area, by constructing and commissioning four sets of toilet facilities for the Local Education Authority Primary School at Kunyi Katseh-Gwafan District (Lamingo).
The school, built less than five years ago, had been operating without toilet facilities, exposing pupils and teachers to the risks of open defecation. Oluwagbemisola’s intervention aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at reducing open defecation by 2030.
In addition to the toilet facilities, Oluwagbemisola conducted a deworming exercise for the pupils, donated school uniforms to less privileged students, and repaired a faulty borehole that serves as the community’s primary water source.
Her other notable achievements include providing essential educational materials, a first aid box, and medical outreach in Kabong Community. She also distributed birth kits to pregnant women at the Faith Alive Foundation, where she is undertaking her primary assignment.
Dignitaries, including the Leader of the Legislative Arm of Jos North Local Government Council, Hon. Job Izang, traditional rulers, women, teachers, and pupils, attended the commissioning ceremony and praised Oluwagbemisola for her selfless gesture, which has significantly improved the community’s health and well-being.
They appealed to the NYSC authorities to recognize and reward Oluwagbemisola’s outstanding contributions to the community.”
