By Samuel Temiloluwa
The PDP candidate for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Dr Femi Olubiyo, has commended security forces for foiling a planned bandit attack on Ikoyi community in Ijumu Local Government Area.
In a statement issued Sunday, Dr Olubiyo said timely intelligence and the coordinated intervention of the Nigerian Army, Police, and local vigilantes prevented loss of lives and destruction of property in the attack.
“I join the people of Ikoyi and the entire Ijumu LGA to applaud our gallant security personnel for their swift response,” he said. “Their professionalism and courage once again prove that with the right support and intelligence sharing, our communities can be protected from criminal elements.”
Dr Olubiyo urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies, stressing that “security is a collective responsibility that requires unity between citizens and government.”
The PDP candidate also pledged to prioritize grassroots security, youth engagement, and peacebuilding initiatives if elected. He said he would work with stakeholders to ensure victims of fear and displacement from the incident receive immediate support.
“Kogi West will not be overrun by banditry. With unity, vigilance, and decisive action by our security forces, we will defeat every plot against our peace,” he added.
Residents say the prompt intervention by troops and vigilantes on Saturday averted what could have been another deadly attack on the rural community.
