Security Forces Foil Planned Bandit Attack in Ikoyi, Ijumu LGA – Otunba Adeniyi Olayemi Commends Troops

Security operatives in Kogi West have foiled a planned bandit attack in Ikoyi community, Ijumu Local Government Area, following what community leaders described as timely intelligence and swift intervention by troops.
In a press statement released from his office in Kabba on Saturday, June 7, 2026, community builder and philanthropist Otunba Adeniyi Olayemi, (So’Mi Edumaré) commended the Nigerian Army, Police, and local vigilante groups for intercepting the attackers before lives and property could be destroyed.
“Through timely intelligence and courageous intervention, officers of the Nigerian Army, Police, and local vigilante groups intercepted the attackers before they could harm lives or destroy property,” Olayemi said. “This decisive action has once again proven that our security personnel remain the first line of defense for peace and safety in Kogi West and beyond.”
Otunba Olayemi (So’Mi Edumaré) saluted the “bravery, professionalism, and sacrifice” of every officer involved, noting that their commitment at a time when banditry threatens rural communities deserves public recognition and encouragement.
He urged residents of Ikoyi to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies, stressing that “security is a collective responsibility.”
Olayemi also pledged to support grassroots security, youth engagement, and peacebuilding initiatives across Ijumu LGA. He said he would engage relevant stakeholders to ensure victims of fear and displacement from the incident receive necessary support.
“Kogi State will not be overrun by criminality. With unity between citizens and security forces, we will defeat every plot against our peace,” he concluded.
