INEC RESTORES FOUR DELTA, KOGI ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCIES, SETS AUGUST 21–25 FOR PRIMARIES

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States, following court judgments directing their restoration.

The Commission, in a statement issued on Friday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, said three of the restored constituencies are in Delta State, while one is in Kogi.

The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.

INEC said political parties have been given August 21 to 25, 2026, to conduct their primaries for candidates seeking to contest the restored constituencies.

According to the Commission, the schedule coincides with the period set aside for party primaries ahead of bye-elections to fill vacancies in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency of Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State.

Elections for the affected constituencies have been scheduled for September 19, 2026.

INEC said all other timelines and activities contained in its previously published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election would apply to the restored constituencies.

The Commission also directed political parties to submit notices of their respective primaries before the scheduled dates.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive and transparent elections.
