By Our Correspondent

Ten Corps Members abducted by suspected kidnappers have been rescued from the Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State by a joint operation involving the Police, Military, Department of State Services (DSS) and other auxiliary security forces.

The Kogi State Police Command disclosed this in a press statement issued on Monday, August 31, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat.

According to the Command, the rescue was achieved through a coordinated, sustained and intelligence-driven operation aimed at securing the safe recovery of the victims, dismantling criminal elements operating in the area and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The Police, however, disclosed that the operation remains ongoing, as security forces intensify efforts to locate and safely rescue other victims who may still be in captivity.

The Command said the joint forces are simultaneously pursuing the perpetrators responsible for the attack, assuring residents that all available operational resources are being deployed towards bringing the incident to a successful conclusion.

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, commended the gallantry, professionalism and resilience of the personnel of the Police, Military, DSS and other supporting security and auxiliary forces involved in the operation.

He also appreciated members of the public, particularly residents of the affected communities, for their cooperation and timely provision of credible information, describing such information as critical to the success of security operations.

The Police urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report suspicious movements or any information that could assist security agencies in locating the remaining victims and apprehending the perpetrators.

The Command assured the people of Kogi State that it would continue to provide updates as soon as operational circumstances permit, while reiterating its commitment to the safe recovery of all remaining victims and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
