By Peter Azi – Jos
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has declared its readiness for the 2027 general elections, reaffirming its commitment to party unity, constitutional order and recognised leadership while unveiling its candidates for key elective positions in the state.
The declaration was made on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during a press briefing at the party’s secretariat along Tafawa Balewa Street, Jos, following an extended executive committee meeting attended by ward chairmen, local government executives, party stakeholders and supporters.
Addressing journalists, the Jos North PDP Chairman, Hon. Elijah Azi, described the party as one indivisible political organisation, insisting that its constitution and established leadership structures remained the basis for resolving internal disagreements and guiding members’ conduct ahead of the 2027 elections.
Azi identified Alhaji Abdurrahman Mohammed as the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Peter Tongshe as Plateau State Chairman, and Dr. Samaila Achigak Rukuba as the State Publicity Secretary and official spokesperson.
He urged members to respect the party’s leadership arrangements and work collectively towards strengthening its political fortunes.
On the legal dispute surrounding the local government election process, including a State High Court judgment arising from a suit involving the ALGON chairman and the state Attorney-General, Azi disclosed that an appeal had been filed.
He maintained that the party would respect the judicial process and await the Court of Appeal’s decision before taking further positions on the matter.
Addressing disagreements and the existence of rival groups within the party, the chairman called on aggrieved members to return to the fold, stressing that unity, adherence to the party’s constitution and a commitment to democratic accountability should take precedence over internal differences.
Unveiling the party’s candidates for the forthcoming elections, the Jos North PDP leadership named Hon. Amisu Nuru Muhammad as its candidate for the Jos North North State Constituency and Hon. Tundusu Daniel as its candidate for the Jos North West State Constituency.
Hon. Musa Aga Avia was also presented as the party’s candidate for the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency.
For the Plateau North Senatorial District, the party presented Hon. Gyangson Godson, popularly known as “Banga by Nature,” as its candidate.
Party officials expressed confidence in his capacity to represent the district, citing his political engagement and advocacy for the interests of youths and communities across Plateau State.
At the governorship level, the party unveiled Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, popularly known as “Keffiano,” as its candidate for the 2027 Plateau State governorship election.
Party officials described him as a grassroots politician and highlighted his reported support for widows and scholarship beneficiaries. They also expressed optimism about his capacity to address concerns over insecurity, underdevelopment and governance in the state.
The party called on its members, women, youths and supporters across the 20 wards of Jos North to intensify mobilisation and remain united behind its candidates.
It maintained that a cohesive opposition would be vital to democratic accountability and the emergence of responsive governance in Plateau State.
Azi commended ward executives, local government leaders, party stakeholders and journalists for their participation and continued engagement, reiterating the leadership’s commitment to constitutional principles and the rule of law as the party prepares for the 2027 electoral contest.
The PDP leadership concluded by urging members to set aside their differences, strengthen cooperation across the party’s structures and work towards a common electoral objective, expressing confidence that unity and disciplined organisation would improve the party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections.
