OPERATIVES of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested the former governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, over an alleged N27 billion fraud.

Ishaku, who completed his tenure in 2023 after serving as governor for eight years, was reportedly apprehended at his Abuja residence in the early hours of Friday.

Sources within the commission confirmed to our correspondent that the former governor remained in EFCC custody as of Friday night.

An insider disclosed that at least 15 charges have been filed against Ishaku, and he will soon be arraigned in court. “We have been investigating him covertly since his tenure ended. There are several cases of financial malfeasance linked to his administration,” the source revealed.

Another source added that Ishaku was detained after failing to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the financial irregularities under his administration.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details.
