Just In: Kogi Poly Matriculates 6,549 new ND, HND students, as the institution Secures Full Accreditation for 27 Programmes

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing full accreditation for 27 of its academic programmes.

The Rector of the citadel of learning, Professor Usman Ogbo, disclosed this during the institution’s 32nd Orientation and Matriculation Ceremony for new National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) students for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Professor Ogbo proudly disclosed that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) granted the Polytechnic 100% success in the Institutional Accreditation, Resource Inspection, and Programme Accreditation conducted between December 18th and 20th, 2024.

He added that the fully accredited programmes include: ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology, ND Computer Engineering Technology, HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology (Power and Machine Option), HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology (Electronic and Telecommunication Option), ND Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology, ND and HND Accountancy.

Others are, ND and HND Business Administration and Management, ND and HND Public Administration; HND Science Laboratory Technology (Microbiology Option); HND Urban and Regional Planning; ND and HND Library and Information Science; ND Horticultural Technology; ND Animal Health and Production Technology; ND Agricultural Technology

The Rector noted that the NBTE granted additional approval for new programmes after resource inspection, including: HND Civil Engineering Technology; HND Mechanical Engineering Technology (Manufacturing Option); HND Building Technology; HND Architectural Technology; HND Surveying and Geo-Informatics; ND Printing Technology; ND Fashion Design and Clothing Technology; ND Mass Communication

Professor Ogbo highlighted that this accomplishment mirrors the Polytechnic’s 2022 feat when all 30 presented programmes were reaccredited. He emphasized that no programme currently holds denied or interim accreditation status, underscoring the institution’s academic stability.

Expressing satisfaction, the Rector celebrated the successful establishment of the Department of Mass Communication, describing it as a challenging but rewarding venture. He also noted that 19 out of the Polytechnic’s 57 programmes were introduced during his administration, accounting for 33.3% of the institution’s total academic offerings.

Professor Ogbo commended the collective efforts of the institution’s Principal Officers, Management, Academic Board, and non-academic staff; including cleaners, drivers, and security personnel for their dedication and support throughout the accreditation process.

He congratulated the 6,549 newly matriculated students, acknowledging their success in navigating the rigorous admission process. He assured them of the institution’s commitment to providing quality education in both character and learning.

Special appreciation was extended to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, for fostering a stable academic environment and to the current Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering support for the Polytechnic’s growth.
