Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election in 2027, declaring that Kaduna State, the North-West geopolitical zone, Northern Nigeria and the country at large are firmly behind the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Barau made the declaration following the massive turnout of supporters at the presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, where thousands of party faithful, political leaders, stakeholders, youth groups, women and supporters from different parts of the country reportedly gathered to demonstrate their support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
In a strong message to the opposition, the Deputy Senate President declared: “Kaduna is for Tinubu! Kano is for Tinubu! The North-West is for Tinubu! Arewa is for Tinubu! Nigeria is for Tinubu!”
The declaration underscored the APC leadership’s determination to consolidate its political support in the North-West, one of Nigeria’s most politically significant regions, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Barau, the turnout at the campaign flag-off demonstrated the enthusiasm of party supporters and their commitment to the APC’s political objectives as preparations intensify for the forthcoming electoral contest.
Massive Turnout in Kaduna
Thousands of supporters from Kaduna’s 23 local government areas, the seven North-Western states, including Kano, and other parts of Nigeria reportedly converged on Kaduna for the campaign event organised in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The Deputy Senate President stated that the enthusiasm was evident along the route from Hassan Usman Katsina International Airport through Mando Road to Ranchers Bees Stadium, now known as Kaduna Township Stadium, where the event was held.
He described the atmosphere as an impressive display of political solidarity, noting that crowds gathered at different points along the approximately 30-kilometre route to welcome and cheer the President and members of his entourage.
For the APC, the gathering represented an opportunity to demonstrate its organisational strength, mobilise supporters and reinforce its political presence in the North-West ahead of the next general elections.
However, while large campaign crowds can demonstrate enthusiasm and party mobilisation, the ultimate measure of political support will be determined by voters at the ballot box.
Senator Barau expressed optimism that, by the grace of Almighty Allah and with the continued support of Nigerians, the APC would emerge victorious in the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
He called on party members and supporters to remain united, committed and focused on strengthening the party’s structures across the country.
The Deputy Senate President’s remarks also highlighted the importance of sustained grassroots mobilisation, political engagement and cooperation among party leaders as the APC prepares for the electoral contest.
For the ruling party, retaining the support of the North-West will be particularly important because of the region’s substantial voting population and its influence on Nigeria’s presidential elections.
The zone comprises Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto and Zamfara states, making it a critical battleground for parties seeking to build a winning national coalition.
Barau’s declaration therefore reflects the APC’s ambition to consolidate its support base in the region while extending its appeal to voters across the six geopolitical zones.
The Deputy Senate President also expressed appreciation to the people of Kaduna State and the wider North-West for their participation and peaceful conduct during the event.
He commended the supporters who travelled from different locations to attend the campaign flag-off, describing their participation as an encouraging sign of political commitment.
He stressed the need for party supporters to maintain peace, discipline and respect for democratic principles throughout the electioneering period.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of 2027, the peaceful conduct of rallies and other campaign events will remain essential to ensuring that political competition does not undermine public order or national unity.
Barau’s message also serves as a call for APC members to translate their enthusiasm into sustained engagement with citizens, particularly at the grassroots level.
The Kaduna campaign flag-off comes against the backdrop of growing political calculations among parties seeking to secure the support of voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
For the APC, the challenge will be to maintain party unity, strengthen its structures and convince Nigerians that the Tinubu administration deserves another mandate.
The opposition parties, on their part, are expected to intensify their efforts to challenge the ruling party and present alternative programmes to the electorate.
The coming months will therefore be significant for political mobilisation, policy debates and negotiations among influential stakeholders across the country.
Barau’s declaration reflects the confidence of the APC leadership in its prospects, particularly in the North-West, where party leaders are seeking to consolidate existing support and attract additional voters.
Nevertheless, the strength of any political party will ultimately depend not only on campaign attendance but also on its ability to address citizens’ concerns, communicate its programmes and earn public confidence.
‘APC from Top to Bottom’
Reaffirming his support for the ruling party, Barau emphasised the APC’s determination to maintain its presence at all levels of government.
His message was captured in the party slogan: “APC from top to bottom, APC from bottom to top.”
The slogan conveys the party’s ambition to sustain its political influence from the presidency and National Assembly to state governments, legislatures and grassroots political structures.
Barau expressed hope that Almighty Allah would grant the party victory in the forthcoming elections, while calling on members and supporters to remain steadfast in their commitment.
As the 2027 elections approach, the APC will be looking to turn the enthusiasm displayed at the Kaduna campaign flag-off into electoral support across the North-West and the rest of Nigeria.
For Senator Barau and other party leaders, the message from Kaduna is clear: the APC intends to approach the next general elections with confidence, unity and an aggressive grassroots mobilisation strategy.
“Kaduna is for Tinubu! Kano is for Tinubu! The North-West is for Tinubu! Arewa is for Tinubu! Nigeria is for Tinubu!”
Allah Ya ba mu nasara.
