Kano APC Unveils Campaign Advisory Council Ahead of 2027 Elections, Waiya’s Absence Raises Question.

October 21, 2026.

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a high-powered Campaign Advisory Council ahead of the 2027 general elections, in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s political structures, improving coordination and consolidating its grassroots mobilisation across the state.

The council, which is expected to provide strategic direction, coordinate political engagements and oversee key campaign activities, will be chaired by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The establishment of the council underscores the importance the party attaches to early preparations for the forthcoming elections, particularly in Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states and a major battleground in the contest for the presidency and governorship.

With its large electorate, extensive grassroots networks and considerable influence on national political calculations, Kano is expected to play a decisive role in determining the fortunes of political parties in 2027.

The new advisory council is therefore expected to serve as a central platform for harmonising the activities of party leaders, elected officials, political stakeholders and grassroots mobilisers, while developing strategies to strengthen the APC’s electoral prospects.

However, the composition of the council has attracted attention within political circles, particularly following the omission of Ibrahim Waiya, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs.
Waiya’s absence has generated questions among observers about the considerations that informed the selection of members of a committee expected to play a significant role in campaign communication, public engagement and the presentation of the party’s political message to the electorate.

Given the strategic importance of information management during election campaigns, the relationship between the state government’s information machinery and the party’s campaign communication structure is likely to attract further scrutiny as preparations intensify.

Political communication is an important component of modern electioneering, encompassing public enlightenment, media engagement, the dissemination of policy positions and the communication of candidates’ programmes to voters.

Consequently, the composition of a campaign advisory body can become a subject of interest when key political and communication figures are not included.

Nevertheless, there has been no official clarification establishing why Waiya was not included in the council. It would therefore be premature to conclude that his omission reflects a political disagreement, a deliberate attempt to sideline him or any division within the party.

His absence could be connected to the criteria adopted for selecting members, the division of responsibilities between government and party structures, or other considerations that have not been publicly disclosed.

An official explanation, if provided, would help clarify the circumstances surrounding the council’s composition and address speculation within political circles.
Beyond the question of individual representation, the effectiveness of the council will ultimately depend on its ability to establish clear responsibilities, promote internal cooperation and develop a coherent campaign strategy capable of reaching voters across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

The council will also face the task of coordinating political engagement across different constituencies, maintaining communication between party leaders and grassroots structures, and ensuring that campaign activities are organised around clearly defined objectives.

As the 2027 elections approach, political parties are expected to intensify consultations, strengthen their organisational structures and assess the concerns of their supporters. For the APC in Kano, the new council presents an opportunity to consolidate its political machinery and improve coordination among its stakeholders.

However, the success of such an arrangement will depend not only on the calibre of those appointed but also on the inclusiveness of the process, the clarity of its mandate and the willingness of party members to work collectively towards shared objectives.
For now, Waiya’s omission remains one of the notable talking points surrounding the announcement. Whether it has any broader political significance remains an open question pending clarification from the party.

Ultimately, the attention generated by the council’s composition highlights the delicate balance political parties must maintain between strategic appointments, stakeholder representation and effective communication as they prepare for a competitive election cycle.

As the APC moves forward with its 2027 preparations, party supporters and political observers will be watching closely to see how the council performs, how it engages the party’s wider membership and whether its structure adequately reflects the interests and responsibilities of key stakeholders.

The immediate challenge for the council will be to translate its strategic position into effective organisation, credible public engagement and a coordinated campaign capable of addressing the expectations of Kano voters.
