The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) is moving forward with local government elections on October 26, 2024, reaffirmed by Chairman Prof. Sani Malumfashi.
This decision follows a favorable Kano State High Court ruling, enabling KANSIEC to proceed despite a previous federal high court judgment by Justice Simon Amobeda halting the election and dismissing the commission’s leadership.
Prof. Malumfashi stated that the court’s decision directs relevant authorities, including the police, to provide necessary security for a smooth electoral process. He highlighted the participation of multiple political parties such as the NNPP, ZLP, Accord Party, NRM, AAC, and AA, and expressed disappointment over one party’s non-compliance with election protocols.
Throughout this process, KANSIEC has followed procedural due diligence, including the legislative approval of commissioner nominations by the State House of Assembly. Prof. Malumfashi underscored the commission’s commitment to transparency and fairness, reiterating the state’s constitutional mandate to conduct timely local elections, in line with federal government directives.
