Kebbi South: IDPs Declare Support for ADC Ahead of 2027, Call for Political Change.

KEBBI — Some internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Kebbi State have expressed support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying they are dissatisfied with the political situation and hardship they have experienced in recent years.
The declaration was made during the distribution of food assistance to displaced persons at Dirin Daji in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The relief materials were donated by Senator Garba Musa Maidoki and delivered by his representative, Hon. Dantani Ango Yellow.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi and Malama Inu Hussa said the displaced communities had endured severe difficulties arising from insecurity and displacement. They appealed to political leaders to pay greater attention to the humanitarian situation affecting communities in Kebbi South.
The speakers also expressed their political preference ahead of the 2027 elections, saying they had moved away from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and were prepared to support the ADC.
“We have suffered greatly, and we want political leaders to understand the challenges confronting our communities. We want a government and political leadership that will prioritise security, peace and the welfare of ordinary people,” the representatives said.
Their comments come amid wider political realignments in Kebbi ahead of the 2027 elections. Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, who represents Kebbi South in the National Assembly, left the APC for the ADC in June 2026, citing internal disagreements within the APC and developments surrounding the party’s primaries.
The senator’s move has subsequently strengthened the ADC’s political presence in Kebbi South, although political alignments in the state remain fluid, with movements of politicians and supporters between the APC and ADC reported in recent months.
Representing Senator Maidoki at the relief distribution, Hon. Dantani Ango Yellow conveyed the senator’s message of peace, security and political participation to the displaced persons.
He said Senator Maidoki was committed to supporting vulnerable communities and called on citizens to exercise their constitutional right to participate actively in the 2027 elections.
According to the message, the senator urged the people of Kebbi State, particularly residents of Kebbi South, to avoid selling their votes and to carefully consider the leadership choices before them.
He also appealed to the people to remain united and peaceful while seeking solutions to the insecurity and socio-economic difficulties confronting their communities.
The relief exercise covered five IDP camps, with food items distributed to displaced persons at each location. The delegation also extended the exercise to camps at Dankolo and Ayu in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.
The humanitarian situation in parts of Kebbi South has been documented by government agencies. In 2023, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that armed bandit attacks had displaced residents from several communities in Danko/Wasagu, Fakai, Sakaba and Zuru local government areas, with some displaced persons taking refuge in public schools and others staying with relatives and friends.
The National Assembly has also previously raised concerns over attacks and displacement in parts of the Zuru Emirate, including Sakaba and Wasagu, highlighting the wider security and humanitarian challenges facing the area.
At the distribution centres, the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the assistance and prayed for Senator Maidoki and his associates. They also prayed for peace, security and an end to the displacement affecting their communities.
The development adds another dimension to the increasingly competitive political atmosphere in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 elections, as the APC and ADC continue to mobilise supporters across the state.
The ADC has also confirmed former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 Kebbi governorship election, further raising the political profile of the party in the state.
