Kogi 2027: Businessman Momoh Obaro Joins Senate Race, Picks APC Forms for Kogi Central

A prominent grassroots mobilizer and Kogi-born businessman, Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro, has officially entered the race for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat after obtaining the nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His entrance was coming against the backdrop of earlier insinuation that Kogi Central APC had endorsed former Governor Yahaya Bello as it’s sole candidate.

However, Obaro picked up the forms on Tuesday afternoon at the Abuja Intercontinental Hotel, a venue designated by the party for the exercise. He was accompanied by a large number of supporters and well-wishers.

The APC UK Branch Secretary and former Director of Finance at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Obaro is positioning himself as a strong contender in the district, where he is expected to challenge established political figures including Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former Governor Yahaya Bello.

Obaro, who previously contested for the governorship of Kogi State, said his ambition is driven by a desire to accelerate development in Kogi Central through people-focused and non-controversial representation.

He noted that his decision to contest under the APC aligns with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that the district requires quality representation to unlock its full potential.

“Successive administrations have done their best, but much more needs to be achieved. I see myself as the missing link, bringing exposure, intellectual capacity, grassroots support, and the will to make a difference,” Obaro said.

He emphasized his commitment to inclusive governance, pledging to prioritize the needs of women, youths, and vulnerable groups while delivering tangible development outcomes.

Obaro further outlined key areas of focus for his campaign, including provision of pipe-borne water, microfinance support for women burdened by loan schemes, youth empowerment through mini-livestock industries, scholarships, and the establishment of ultra-modern libraries.

A development consultant and data analyst, Obaro holds both an MBA and an MSc in Software Engineering. He is widely regarded in Kogi Central for his philanthropic activities and grassroots initiatives.

In December 2025, he received a unanimous endorsement from the Eziogu Supreme Council of Chiefs, led by the Ozumi of Okene, HRH Haruna Onotu, who described him as a symbol of unity, capacity, and credibility.

With his entry into the race, political dynamics in Kogi Central are expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shortly after obtaining his for, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, congratulated Chief Momoh Obaro on being the first aspirant to obtain the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for Kogi Central Senatorial District in the North Central, the region from which the Minister also hails.

Speaking further, Dr. Doro said: “Chief, I know you can. You have shown capacity as the APC UK Secretary, and your efforts and input took us far. I am confident in your capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy to your people.’

He concluded by stating that: ‘Chief Obaro, you are going to the Senate to show the big difference that we, the APC UK branch, stand for. Congratulations to the good people of Kogi Central Senatorial District and to all members of the APC UK branch.’
