KOGI 2027: ENDORSE YOUR CANDIDATE AT THE BALLOT, NOT MEETING ROOM—MEKSTA Reacts to Ododo’s Second Term Endorsement Meeting at Kabba
●There are so many things wrong with the report of Monday’s purported Kogi West endorsement meeting at Kabba, where people of likeminds gathered to endorse Governor Usman Ododo for second term.
●While it can be understood why political appointees of the governor and others who swam in the Yahaya Bello/Usman Ododo’s 10 years rules combined decided to gather themselves to declare support for their paymasters continuity, it is apparent that that set of people can only speak for themselves, having lost touch with the people of Kogi West who 99 percent are desirous of change in 2027.
●The presence of traditional rulers at the meeting also does not make a difference. It is not the duty of traditional rulers to speak on such matters, which are supposed to be at the discretion of political parties and social-political and umbrella socio-cultural groups such as the Okun Development Association (ODA).
●Whereas the report referred to a broad spectrum of participants including traditional rulers, academics, political figures, youth leaders and women’s groups, it failed to state that the addresses of some of the revered leaders mentioned in connection with the endorsement were more theoretical than political.
●Let it be noted that a monologue in Lokoja among government appointees most of whom are disconnected from their constituents and loathed by them, is worth less than scrap paper. At the end of the day, with the electoral reforms President Bola Tinubu is putting in place, the disaffected and disenchanted electorate, and not desperados will determine their leaders.
●The report is therefore misleading, unjournalistic, and a mere expression of personal opinion by those in attendance.
●Kogi West people, after 16 years of Ebira rule—four years in the old Kwara State, eight years of Yahaya Bello and four years of Ododo—are desirous of change and they cannot wait beyond 2027.
In conclusion, Movement for the Emancipation of Kogi State (MEKSTA) wishes to advise the gathering at Kabba to endeavour to endorse their candidate at the ballot, not meeting rooms.
