Kogi APC stakeholders express concern over internal disputes, defend Karimi

By Adeola Badru

A political group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has raised concerns over internal disagreements in the party, following a recent press conference held in Kabba.

The Kogi Progressive Stakeholders Forum (KPSF), a coalition of APC stakeholders and support groups, made its position known in a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Sani Philips, in which it also defended the record of Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, who represents Kogi West.

The group described recent criticisms of the senator, including a reported vote of no confidence, as unfounded and urged party members and the public to treat such claims with caution.

The statement followed a press briefing reportedly organised by some APC executives in Kogi West, who cautioned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) against supporting Senator Karimi.

Reacting, the KPSF dismissed the concerns raised at the briefing and called on party leaders to disregard them, maintaining that the senator continues to enjoy support among his constituents.

According to the forum, Senator Karimi has carried out a number of constituency projects, programmes and legislative initiatives which, it said, have had a positive impact on the people of Kogi West.

The group also expressed concern over the use of the media in addressing internal party matters, noting that such actions could affect party unity and cohesion.

It further cautioned that prolonged internal disagreements could have implications for the party’s electoral prospects in the state if not properly managed.

While distancing itself from the views expressed at the Kabba press conference, the forum said those positions do not reflect what it described as the broader sentiment among party members at the grassroots in Kogi West.

The KPSF reaffirmed its support for Senator Karimi and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, and called on the APC’s national leadership to focus on strengthening unity within the party.

It also urged members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and committed to the party, stressing the importance of collective effort in sustaining political stability and electoral success.
