KOGI COUNCILLOR REHABILITATES COMMUNITY BOREHOLE WITH HIS FIRST SALARY, PLEDGES TO DO MORE

Hon. Nasiru Yahaya (Lexo), the Councillor representing Enjema Ward 3 in Ankpa Local Government Area has used his first salary to rehabilitate a broken down borehole in Inye, one of the communities in his ward.

The particular borehole was constructed during the colonial era in 1959 by Water Board and continued to be maintained by the community until it broke down about 8 years ago. Community efforts to resuscitate it about two years ago failed which left to its abandonment.

On resumption of duty after being sworn in as Councillor which he won on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Nasiru Yahaya picked the borehole issue up immediately and got engineers to run checks. It was reported that it was down due to failed Sumo, damaged pipes and some other items. The repair work was put at over three hundred thousand naira (₦300,000) which he offset and the water was resuscitated for the community’s use. For the power generator which was serviced for immediate use, he pledged to provide a new one in the meantime.

Speaking after reviving the water project, he thanked the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for laying a developmental template which he keyed in with immediate effect and also the Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Engr. Ademu Muhammed Yahaya for his support. He urged the community to put those who have good maintenance habits in charge of it to enjoy maximum usage.

The APC Chairman of the Ward, Hon. Samson Zekeri commended the Councillor for starting well. He stated that with the way he started the ward will benefit more because he would lead the Local Government Council Chairman and His Excellency the Executive Governor of the State to bring more development to the ward. He reiterated that the people of the ward knew how to appreciate and reciprocate good gestures, therefore what the Councillor was doing would translate to more support for APC and the government of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and Engr. Ademu Muhammed Yahaya.

One of the spearheads of the rehabilitation, Mr. Ekibo Acheneje who highlighted the joy of the community for the rehabilitation of the borehole stated that Hon. Nasiru Yahaya was known for his support for community development earlier before he came to represent the ward as Councillor. He mentioned that he had influenced some other projects to the ward before and had supported community development efforts severally. He commended him and promised that they would continue to rally support for him, APC and the government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Some stakeholders of Ankpa Local Government had also commended him for the good start. They used the opportunity to urge his colleagues to emulate him and touch their wards in various ways to reflect the developmental foresight of His Excellency Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. Key among them was the Rector of KogiPoly, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman who said that if all Councillors took que from what Hon. Nasiru Yahaya did, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s ambition to drive down development to the grassroot would be achieved easily because His Excellency would listen to any Councillor who presented the needs of their people through their Local Government Council Chairmen based on their efforts for their people.
