1st November, 2023
The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Aliyu Umar Yusuf has enjoined Kakanda sons and daughters in all parts of the state to work for the victory of the APC in Kogi State to demonstrate their gratitude to the present administration for ensuring one of them emerged as the speaker, the first time in the history of the state.
He stated this on Wednesday in Lokoja, at a meeting of the entire Kakanda People in Lokoja Local Government Area where hundreds of participants partook, a press statement signed and made available to journalists by the Chief Press Secretary to the speaker, Yabagi Mohammed, recorded.
The speaker stated that a vote for Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo was not only for the APC, but a demonstration of their resolve to ensure they protect what providence had brought to their land with the position of the head of the legislature.
Rt Honourable Umar recalled how the ethnic group have made efforts to see that their land moved forward, noting that the progress being witnessed in the area and the state within the short period of his emergence is a testament to his desire to see to the development of the land and Lokoja Local Government in general.
According to the speaker, those making efforts to lure people of the area to do otherwise in the upcoming gubernatorial election were people without any form of credibility in terms of contribution to the development of Kakanda Land despite the opportunities they had had in the past.
The speaker called on them to avoid such people as they were anti-development and not interested in seeing the area move forward, but their personal gains.
He used the example of the immediate past Minister of State (FCT), Dr Ramatu Tijani Aliyu, who used her office to attract development to Kakanda Land, noting that it informed their decision to support her at the time, irrespective of their political affiliations, and enjoined the people to reciprocate same so that they can have someone that would always protect their interest at the highest decision making body in government.
While calling on the people to ensure they comb all parts of the area, including their places of residence in all parts of the state and campaign for the APC, tasked them to ensure landslide victory that would justify the trust of the system in his office.
In their separate contributions, speakers took turns to express their belief in the speaker’s efforts to ensure development in Kakanda Land and Kogi State in general, stated their commitment towards the realisation of his prayers, noting that they would do all within their powers to ensure the victory of the APC in the November 11th election.
