Kogi Reconciliation: Former Governor Wada-Led Peace Committee Meets APC National Officer, Durosinmi Meseko, in Abuja
By Our Correspondent
In a major step towards strengthening party unity and fostering lasting peace across Kogi State, the Kogi State Peace and Reconciliation Committee on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, paid a consultative visit to the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, at his Abuja residence.
Leading the engagement, the First Vice Chairman of the committee and former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, represented the committee’s chairman, former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Captain Idris Wada, who was unavoidably absent as he travelled to Abejukolo to attend the 40-day Fidau prayers for the late Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, former Governor of Kogi State, who recently passed away.
Arc. Awoniyi disclosed that the committee had so far engaged 52 prominent sons and daughters of Kogi State as part of its ongoing peace and reconciliation mission.
He highlighted several recurring issues emerging from the committee’s consultations with aggrieved stakeholders across the state. These include:
- Concerns surrounding party primary elections;
- The party’s reward system;
- Perceived imbalance in political appointments;
- Unequal distribution of development projects; and
- The resolution of the leadership differences involving Hon. James Faleke and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Responding, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko commended the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for constituting the reconciliation committee. He described the initiative as a visionary step that demonstrates exemplary leadership and a strong commitment to sustainable peace.
Addressing party leaders and stakeholders present, Meseko emphasised that lasting unity in Kogi State must be firmly anchored on equity, fairness and balanced inclusion across the three senatorial districts to ensure that every citizen feels a genuine sense of belonging.
Warning that “a house divided against itself cannot stand,” the APC national officer urged party faithful to set aside personal ambitions and temporary grievances in the interest of comprehensive reconciliation.
He stressed that electoral victory could be undermined by persistent internal disagreements, urging delegates and stakeholders to resolve contentious issues constructively and present a united front for the party’s success and the overall development of the state.
Meseko further cautioned political leaders against listening to individuals who spread falsehoods, noting that dishonesty breeds distrust and undermines collective progress.
As a practical step towards resolving the ongoing political disagreements, he urged party leaders to make clear public statements assuring stakeholders who feel marginalised of their commitment to fairness, justice and equity.
The meeting underscored the urgent need for sustained and constructive dialogue among party leaders to address grievances proactively before they escalate into deeper divisions.
At the end of the consultation, the Peace and Reconciliation Committee assured Meseko that all issues, suggestions and recommendations raised during the engagement would be comprehensively documented and incorporated into its final report upon completion of its assignment.
Members of the committee delegation at the Abuja meeting included DCP Adejoh Yusuf (rtd.), Arc. Mohammed Sule, Alhaji Ahmodu Abubakar Sidiq, Pharmacist Jamiu Asuku, Alh Ado Shuiabu, Hon Abdulkareem Salihu and Mr. Bode Ogunmola, alongside other prominent party leaders.
It will be recalled that His Excellency, Chief Edward Onoja, serves as the Second Vice Chairman of the committee, while Pharmacist Mohammed Jamiu Asuku serves as the Third Vice Chairman, with the committee’s leadership structure providing for representation from each of Kogi State’s three senatorial districts.
