Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, Bags Best Rule of Law Compliant Governor Award

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been honoured as Nigeria’s Best Rule of Law Compliant Governor at the 7th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference held in Abuja.

The conference, organised by the Rule of Law Development Foundation, focused on the theme “Navigating Change: Emerging Trends and Challenges in Nigeria’s Criminal Justice System.” It brought together leading jurists, legal scholars, and policymakers from across the country.

Convener of the conference, Mr. J.B. Daudu (SAN), commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering commitment to the rule of law and for demonstrating practical leadership in strengthening justice institutions. He highlighted the Governor’s sponsorship and registration of 120 delegates from Kogi State—an unprecedented number—facilitated through the efforts of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Muizudeen Yunus Abdullahi (SAN).

Daudu noted that this gesture underscored the Governor’s belief in capacity building and his resolve to ensure that Kogi State’s legal practitioners remain actively engaged in national conversations on criminal justice reform.

The Rule of Law Development Foundation described the award as well-deserved, noting that it reflects a governance approach rooted in justice, due process, and institutional strengthening. The Foundation emphasised that the Governor’s actions go beyond rhetoric, demonstrating a commitment to equipping the judiciary and legal officers with contemporary knowledge and tools for effective justice delivery.

Governor Ododo has consistently prioritised strengthening judicial institutions, supporting prosecutorial integrity, and investing in legal capacity development. Under his leadership, Kogi State has seen:

Enhanced Judicial Support: Measures to ensure the timely and efficient dispensation of justice.
Improved Prosecution Standards: Backing the state’s legal team to pursue cases grounded strictly in evidence and law.

Massive Capacity Building: The sponsorship of 120 delegates as a notable example of his dedication to continuous legal education.

The award serves as a national endorsement of Governor Ododo’s efforts and places Kogi State firmly on the map as a state committed to justice, law, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

The event drew a wide array of participants, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria, judges, academics, and senior law enforcement officials, who collectively acknowledged Kogi State’s growing influence in criminal justice reforms.
