Kogi West APC Primary: I Remain Unperturbed, My Campaign Continues – Senator Karimi
By Our Correspondent
Senator Sunday Karimi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District in the 2027 general election, has declared that he remains undeterred by the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja concerning his candidature.
Karimi, who reacted to the judgment in a statement, said he was confident in the Nigerian judicial system and would pursue his rights through the appellate process.
His reaction followed a suit instituted by Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro challenging his emergence as the APC flagbearer for the Kogi West Senatorial District.
The senator expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, arguing that it was inconsistent with the evidence presented before it.
He also questioned the trial judge’s position on the issues of statute of limitation in pre-election matters and the authority responsible for conducting party primaries and determining their outcomes.
In a statement reacting to the judgment, Karimi alleged that the trial judge departed from positions taken in at least three similar cases involving the interpretation of the statute of limitation in pre-election matters and the authority responsible for conducting and determining the winners of political party primaries.
He, however, expressed confidence that the appellate court would provide an opportunity for redress, stressing that his legal team would pursue the matter through the appropriate judicial channels.
The senator also questioned Aro’s participation in the APC primary, alleging that his opponent did not participate in the exercise but presented documents which, according to him, contained false claims. These allegations have not been independently established.
Karimi further alleged that the legal challenge was part of what he described as a politically motivated effort by influential actors in the Kogi State Government to persecute him because of his outspoken criticism of the administration and its management of the state’s resources.
He maintained that the development would not distract him from his political engagements, insisting that his campaign for the 2027 general election would continue with renewed commitment.
