In a significant stride towards achieving universal health coverage, the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has successfully conducted a capacity-building training for Health Fellows across the state. The one-day session, held at the agency’s conference room, aimed to deepen understanding of the State Contributory Healthcare Scheme and enhance the capacity of key stakeholders in the health sector.
Declaring the training open on behalf of the Executive Secretary, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at KSCHMA, Sadiq Imam, emphasized the strategic importance of the exercise. According to him, Health Fellows serve as a critical bridge between policy and practice, especially in rural and underserved communities. “This training is part of our continued commitment to building a knowledgeable and responsive workforce that can drive the success of our contributory healthcare system,” Imam said.
The workshop featured technical sessions focusing on key components of the health insurance landscape, including the Overview of the KSCHMA Scheme, Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), and Data Collection and Utilization. Facilitators offered deep insights into the operational structure and financing mechanisms of the scheme, highlighting how effective data use is central to planning, monitoring, and policy formulation.
Participants engaged in robust interactive discussions, where they shared field experiences, identified common challenges, and explored innovative solutions to grassroots healthcare delivery. These exchanges reinforced the importance of collaboration, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making in sustaining the scheme’s impact.
Imam, in his closing remarks, praised the Health Fellows for their enthusiasm and commitment, urging them to be ambassadors of the contributory scheme in their respective localities. “Your role in translating this knowledge into action will determine how far we can go in achieving equitable and affordable healthcare for all residents of Kano State,” he stated.
Participants expressed appreciation to KSCHMA for the opportunity and pledged to apply the insights gained to improve service delivery at the primary healthcare level.
The event reflects KSCHMA’s unwavering resolve to invest in human capital development as a foundation for quality healthcare delivery. It also aligns with the agency’s broader vision of “One Voice, One Health, One Future” — a mantra that continues to guide its efforts towards inclusive and sustainable healthcare financing.
