Leke Abejide Celebrates Egbe Unity Day, Announces Second ₦20m Foundation Support, ₦800m Road Project

By Our Correspondent

The member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Leke Joseph Abejide, has congratulated the people of Egbe on the occasion of the 2026 Egbe Unity Day celebration, reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development, community empowerment and infrastructural transformation.

The federal lawmaker, who holds the traditional titles of Maiyegun of Egbe Land and Asiwaju of Yagba, extended his warm felicitations to Egbe sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora, describing the historic town as a community that occupies a special place in his heart.

He expressed delight at identifying with the people of Egbe and their collective aspirations for unity, progress and sustainable development.

Speaking during the celebration, Abejide disclosed that Egbe had benefited from an earlier disbursement of ₦20 million through the Leke Abejide Foundation and announced that the community would receive another ₦20 million in the second phase of the Foundation’s intervention.

  1. According to him, the initiative is part of his sustained efforts to ensure that communities across Yagba Federal Constituency benefit from people-oriented programmes designed to improve livelihoods, stimulate economic activities and promote grassroots development.

He emphasised that his representation would continue to prioritise initiatives that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly in the areas of human capital development, infrastructure, economic empowerment and community advancement.

Addressing the deplorable condition of the Ajaforunti–Oja Egbe Road, the lawmaker revealed that the project had been captured in the 2026 Appropriation Budget at an estimated cost of ₦800 million.

He explained that the proposed intervention would involve the asphalt overlay of a 1.2-kilometre stretch of road, alongside the construction of 2.4 kilometres of concrete drainage and erosion-control infrastructure to address the persistent challenges affecting the road.

Abejide acknowledged the difficulties experienced by residents and motorists, particularly during the rainy season, and expressed his determination to ensure that the project receives the necessary attention as weather conditions become more favourable for construction activities.

The proposed road project, when implemented, is expected to improve accessibility, facilitate the movement of people and goods, boost commercial activities and enhance the overall socioeconomic development of Egbe and its surrounding communities.

The federal lawmaker reiterated that security, human capital development and infrastructural advancement remained the cardinal pillars of his legislative representation.

He maintained that meaningful representation must go beyond legislative responsibilities to include practical interventions capable of improving the living standards of constituents and creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth.

Abejide further assured the people of Egbe that he would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening security, promoting peaceful coexistence and creating an enabling environment for businesses and communities to thrive.

Speaking on national and state politics, the lawmaker called on the people of Egbe to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

He urged residents to demonstrate their support for the President through the ballot, expressing confidence that sustained backing for the administration would help advance its development agenda.

Meanwhile, as part of his continued commitment to infrastructural development across Yagba Federal Constituency, Abejide also inspected ongoing road palliative works along the Ijowa–Mopo axis in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area.

The inspection provided an opportunity for the lawmaker to assess the progress of the intervention and underscore the importance of improving road infrastructure to ease transportation difficulties confronting residents and motorists.

His engagements during the Egbe Unity Day celebration and the inspection of road works in Isanlu further highlighted his commitment to combining community empowerment with infrastructural development as a strategy for promoting economic growth and improving the quality of life across Yagba Federal Constituency.

The celebration also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of unity, collective responsibility and sustained collaboration among Egbe sons and daughters in advancing the development of their ancestral community.
