LG Poll: Ishielu Youths Disown Endorsement Rally

By Demian Okafor

A Youth leader in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Comrade Ifeanyi Onwe has attributed the boycott of political Stakeholders in Ishielu Local Government Area of the State during the endorsement of the second term ambition of the incumbent Council Chairman, Mrs. Peace Agwu to her High-handedness, desperation and abuse of the zoning agreement.

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki the State Capital, the youth leader maintained that it was agreed that power would shift to Ezzagu zone in 2026.

He noted that the endorsement of the council boss was seen as a betrayal to the zoning arrangement reached by stakeholders of the council area.

“The endorsement was a show of shame as the supposed one-million march couldn’t record more than 50 persons in attendance. It was a calculated plot to heat up the polity and cause disaffection in the council area. To say the obvious, no stakeholder of Ezillo extraction attended the rally”.

“It was our agreement that the next council chairman should come from Ezzagu zone. We are annoyed that her desperation wants to scuttle that arrangement and agreement. The people of Ishielu Local Government are Solidly behind the second term bid of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru”.

“How can you arrange an endorsement rally in the local government and the likes of Senator Obinna Ogba, Chief Ben Okah, all members of the State Executive Council, The House of Assembly members from the local government and others boycotted the rally. It only points to one fact. The Stakeholders are not with her because of her High-handedness and other actions”.

The Youth Leader however commended Governor Nwifuru for youth inclusiveness in his government, pleading that the next council chairman should centre on competence and youthfulness.

Meanwhile, a former Vice Chairman of the Ebonyi state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Comrade Benjamin Nworie has boldly expressed his interest to vie for the 2026 chairmanship position of the council.

Comrade Nworie’s aspiration has received widespread acceptance by stakeholders and youths of the Council.

According to the youth leader; “Of the truth, I want to commend a veteran media practitioner, Comrade Benjamin Nworie from Ezzagu zone for his courage and boldness to contest for the position. His declaration has received widespread acceptance and he remains a leading contestant so far. He is competent and his exposure will placed the council high if considered for the position. I want stakeholders to support him for the chairmanship position”.
