PRESS RELEASE

Lokoja Traditional Council Rejects Proposed Coronation of “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja”

In a statement issued on behalf of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir, the Maigari of Lokoja, the Council said its attention had been drawn to a public notice circulating on social media announcing the coronation ceremony scheduled to take place at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, on 28 June 2026.

The Council stated that the Maigari of Lokoja neither appointed nor approved the appointment of any individual to the position of “Ohinoyi of Egbura Lokoja.”

According to the statement, the proposed coronation is inconsistent with the established laws, customs, and traditions governing the Lokoja Traditional Council and its recognized traditional institutions. The Council further noted that the planned event constitutes a challenge to the authority of the traditional institution in Lokoja and has caused concern among the Maigari and members of the Traditional Council.

The Council therefore appealed to the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government and other relevant authorities to take necessary steps to stop the proposed event in order to safeguard public peace, maintain law and order, and preserve the harmony for which Lokoja is known.

The statement emphasized the Council’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and respect for lawful traditional processes, while expressing confidence that the authorities would act promptly to address the matter in the interest of peace and stability.

Signed:

Alhaji Muhammadu Maikarfi Usman
Secretary
Lokoja Traditional Council

For and on behalf of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir, the Maigari of Lokoja
