MAAI Mathematics Quiz Competition: Excellence Bedrock Academy, Lokoja Emerges Winner
The Excellence Bedrock Academy, Lokoja has emerged winner of the Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris’s Mathematics Quiz Competition held yesterday in Lokoja, while Christ the Redeemer Secondary School and ECWA Secondary School took the second and third positions, respectively.
The well thought out event was sponsored by the Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris to boost the horizon of students in secondary schools (public and private) in the state but schools in Lokoja were picked as pilot program for this year to make the students more acquainted with the subject.
Addressing the gathering yesterday through zoom from far away Morocco, the commissioner said in line with the education policy of the state, starting from the immediate past administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello to the incumbent government of Alhaji Ododo Usman which make education one of the thematic areas, he has decided to take up mathematics as one of the key subjects that he will continue to encourage the students in the state to take serious.
While declaring the event open on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones commended the sponsor for his ability to key into the ministry’s program, pointing out that such competition is part of the school adoption initiatives to encourage well-to-do individuals to partner with the government in moving the sector forward.
12 schools participated in the program with approximately 300 students, parents, principals, and political office holders on hand to witness the laudable maiden edition.
The event was keenly contested, with the winners taking home cash prizes of ₦150,000, ₦100,000, and ₦50,000, respectively, along with educational materials worth thousands of naira, trophies, and medals.
The convener of the competition expressed his vision for making mathematics easy for students to understand, emphasizing the importance of the subject in today’s world.
The Wife of the Honorable Commissioner, Chief Mrs. Rukayat Idris, who represented her husband, commended the success and organization of the event.
“The competition was a huge success, thanks to the collective efforts of the organizers, participants, and stakeholders. It has contributed significantly to promoting mathematics education and excellence among secondary school students in Kogi State.
“As the first of its kind in the state, the MAAI All Secondary School Mathematics Quiz Competition has set a high standard for future events. With its focus on mathematics education, the competition has provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and develop their problem-solving skills.
“The success of the competition is a testament to the power of collaboration and community engagement in promoting education and excellence. As the organizers look forward to the next edition, they are poised to build on the momentum generated by this maiden event.
