Mangal Cement Industries Celebrates International Women’s Day with Women Empowerment Initiatives
Mangal Cement Industry has marked this year’s International Women’s Day with the theme: #GiveToGain# by empowering women in its host communities.
The company, in a bid to promote gender equality and support women’s development, provided skills acquisition training and economic empowerment programs for women in the communities.
The initiative aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of women, especially the widows, less privileged, and women with disabilities.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager Administration and Human Resources, Dr. Umar Musa, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting women’s empowerment and development.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.
Also speaking at the event held at the company plant in Iluhagba, Khadijat Obaro Ibrahim emphasized that the company is dedicated to empowering women, not just as a social responsibility, but as a way to create shared value.
The event, themed #GiveToGain#, saw the company distribute start-up kits to women from host communities, equipping them with skills and resources to transform their lives.
Ibrahim noted that investing in women is key to sustainable development, as it strengthens families and stabilizes communities.
She said the company reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling environment for women to flourish, recognizing their potential to drive positive change.
She further noted that the initiative is part of Mangal Industries Ltd’s efforts to support women’s empowerment and development, going beyond the workplace into host communities.
In his presentation, Sustainability Manager Ibrahim Ahmad emphasized that empowering women drives sustainable development, aligning with UN SDGs 5, 8, and 10.
He stated that the company promotes a culture of inclusion, fairness, and respect, valuing every employee’s contribution.
Ahmad noted that the initiative reflects Mangal Industries Ltd’s commitment to creating equal opportunities and removing barriers, fostering a more cohesive and prosperous society.
He encouraged individuals and organizations to take deliberate steps towards inclusion, mentoring, and supporting community initiatives.
Dr. Israel Tosin Ajayi presented a paper titled “Prioritizing Women’s Wellness”, highlighting the importance of women’s health, focusing on early detection and prevention of diseases like breast cancer, cervical cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and mental health issues.
Dr. Ajayi emphasized that women often prioritize others’ needs over their own, delaying critical screenings and care.
The event provided guidelines for screenings, healthy lifestyle choices, and warning signs to watch for, urging women to take control of their health.
The company encouraged women to schedule screenings, build healthy habits, and prioritize mental wellness.
Dr. Ajayi stressed that prevention is key, and investing in women’s health is essential for their well-being and that of their families.
Beneficiaries drawn from the host communities of Mopa and Ijumu Local Government Areas include Ajayi Ogun – Solar Freezer, Joseph Feyisayo – Knitting machine, Solomon Iyabo – Solar Freezer, Sola Titilayo – Knitting machine, Rhoda Ogunbaiye – Sewing Machine, Janet Obadofin – Sewing Machine.
