MISUNDERSTOOD REASON BEHIND GANDUJE’S INDEPENDENT HISBAH CREATION, SAYS FORMER DG SHEIKH HAROON IBN SINA
By Bala Salihu Dawakim Kudu
Kano – Former Director-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Haroon Ibn Sina, has shed light on the reasons behind the creation of an independent Hisbah by former Governor and National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
According to Ibn Sina, many people have misunderstood the purpose of the independent Hisbah, thinking it is a means for individuals to earn a living.
He explained that during his tenure as Director-General, he had informed Ganduje that many people were interested in joining the Hisbah, but they were under the misconception that they would be paid for their services.
Ibn Sina said he had to clarify that the Hisbah is a voluntary service to Almighty Allah, and those joining would not receive a salary.
He formed a committee to draft a law for the establishment of Hisbah Marshals, which involved consultations with security agencies, including Karota.
With the approval of the state government, 5,600 Hisbah Marshals were recruited across 44 local governments, comprising both males and females.
However, after a change in government, the new administration discontinued the retention of the Hisbah Marshals, and they were discharged from duty.
Ibn Sina revealed that the discharged Hisbah Marshals approached Ganduje, expressing their desire to continue serving under his foundation, focusing on community service, such as laying foundations for mosques, establishing Islamiyya schools, and guiding new converts in the Islamic faith.
Ganduje formed a committee to verify the claims of the Hisbah Marshals, and it was discovered that they had indeed been discharged by the new administration.
Ibn Sina emphasized that the Hisbah Marshals were recruited through the Hisbah Commandants of each local government and had been invited by the present administration, only to be discharged.
The former DG expressed concern over the treatment of the Hisbah Marshals, stating that they had been unfairly expelled from their positions.
He urged the public to understand the true purpose of the independent Hisbah and the sacrifices made by those serving in the organization.
