Mopamuro Advocates for Fair Representation, Plea to Governor for Zoning of Federal Constituency Seat
***The call for equity and justice resonates as Mopamuro stakeholders seek political balance in Kogi State
The Mopamuro Forum For Fairness, Equity, and Justice have made a heartfelt plea to His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, the governor of Kogi State, requesting for the Yagba Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general election to be zoned to Mopamuro local government area. This appeal was conveyed to the governor through House of Assembly member representing Mopamuro; Hon Olawumi Jacob.
In a peaceful protest at the APC Party secretariat, members of the group expressed their confidence in the governor’s leadership, sense of justice, and commitment to equity. They highlighted the imbalance in political representation within the Yagba Federal Constituency, with Mopamuro LGA having had only one representative in over two decades, compared to the overwhelming dominance of representatives from Yagba West and Yagba East.
The group pointed out that the current representative from Yagba East, Elder Leke Abejide, has expressed his intention to seek a third term in the 2027 elections, despite earlier promises to Mopamuro electorates during his 2023 campaign. This move, if unchallenged, could further marginalize Mopamuro within the constituency, relegating them to political insignificance.
Therefore, the Mopamuro Forum For Fairness, Equity, and Justice urged Governor Ododo to intervene and support the zoning of the Yagba Federal Constituency seat to Mopamuro in the upcoming elections. They emphasized the need for balance and equity in political representation, chanting the slogan “O to ge, Mopamuro lokan” (Enough is enough, it’s Mopamuro’s Turn).
The appeal, signed by prominent stakeholders such as Commodore Folusho Daniel (Rtd), Chief Eric Fiki, Chief Makinde Oyebode (JP), and Hon. Jesse Abayomi Oloke, commended Governor Ododo for his administration’s achievements and expressed their full commitment to the success of his tenure.
The group’s plea reflects the growing calls for fair and just representation in the political landscape of Kogi State, with a focus on empowering marginalized communities and ensuring equal opportunities for all constituents. As the governor considers their request, the eyes of Mopamuro residents are on the horizon, hoping for a new era of inclusivity and equitable distribution of power within the Yagba Federal Constituency.
The heartfelt plea from the Mopamuro Forum For Fairness, Equity, and Justice requesting the zoning of the Yagba Federal Constituency seat to Mopamuro in the 2027 general election was formally presented by the “Aro” of Mopa Land, Chief Makinde Oyebode on behalf of the group and was received by Hon. Tope Ajayi (Santo), the Special Senior Assistant to the Governor on internal security, on behalf of Hon. Olawumi Jacob, the member representing Mopamuro state constituency.
The appeal, which highlights the need for balance and equity in political representation within the constituency, emphasizes the hopes and aspirations of Mopamuro residents for a new era of inclusivity and fair distribution of power. As the letter is in the hands of the governor’s representatives, the eyes of the community are eagerly watching for a response that will address their concerns and aspirations for political equality.
