My Primary Responsibility Is to Protect Lives and Property of Jos East Citizens — Markus Nyam (Kaunda)
By Peter Azi – Jos
The Executive Chairman of Jos East Local Government Area, Markus Nyam, popularly known as Kaunda, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents of the area.
Recently, the council chairman donated motorcycles and other security gadgets to facilitate the operations of conventional and non-conventional security agencies in the local government area.
Another commendable initiative of his administration is the sustained promotion of peace and security in Jos East. Regular security meetings are held, bringing together relevant stakeholders to deliberate on security challenges and chart a way forward for maintaining peace and stability in the area.
The chairman spoke on these and other issues while responding to questions from journalists during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected executives of the Afizere Cultural and Community Development Association (ACCDA) in Jos.
He described the emergence of a new set of leaders to pilot the affairs of the Afizere nation as a privilege, expressing confidence that they would build on the achievements of their predecessors.
“It is a privilege for the Afizere nation to have another set of leaders who will continue to steer the affairs of the community following the tenure of the outgoing executives.
“We have given them our trust and confidence. The previous administration performed well and achieved a lot, but we are optimistic that the incoming executives will do even more, especially as we move towards a more digital era.
“The president has vast knowledge of community leadership, having previously served as a leader of Plateau State indigenes in Lagos. We therefore believe that his experience will contribute significantly to the development of the Afizere nation,” the chairman said.
Nyam also commended Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for what he described as his administration’s commitment to the development of Jos East Local Government Area.
According to him, the governor has demonstrated genuine concern for the people of Jos East through the award of developmental projects, despite the fact that the area was unable to deliver the expected number of votes to him during the 2023 governorship election.
“I remember that in 2023, we were unable to give him the winning votes, but he has nevertheless awarded contracts for projects in Jos East Local Government Area. These projects have direct benefits for our people.
“In particular, the Fobur–Angware Road project, which dates back to the military era, had not attracted the level of attention it is receiving under Governor Mutfwang. We appreciate his interest in the project and his commitment to improving the lives of our people,” he said.
The chairman reaffirmed that protecting lives and property remains his administration’s primary responsibility, assuring residents that his government would continue to collaborate with security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to sustain peace and promote development across Jos East Local Government Area.
