NDC Chieftain defends Grema’s political credentials, lists over two decades of public service

By Ahiaba Douglas – Abuja

The National Zonal Woman Leader (North Central) of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), High Chief Nike AbdulRahaman, has defended the political credentials of the party’s House of Representatives candidate for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Hassan Ahmed Grema, dismissing claims that he lacks a verifiable record of public service.

In a statement, AbdulRahaman described allegations that Grema “has no political record” as false, insisting that the lawmaker aspirant has more than two decades of experience in public service, grassroots mobilisation and political leadership.

According to her, Grema began his political career as an elected Councillor representing City Centre Ward in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) from 2004 to 2007.

She stated that he also served as President of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria during the same period, providing leadership for councillors across the country.

AbdulRahaman further said Grema served as Supervisory Councillor for Education in AMAC between 2007 and 2008, where he oversaw educational programmes, before his appointment as Coordinator of the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) in the Federal Capital Territory from 2008 to 2011.

She also highlighted his appointment as Senior Special Assistant on Political and National Assembly Liaison to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in 2015, saying the position gave him extensive experience in federal governance and political coordination.

According to the NDC chieftain, Grema has served as Senior Special Assistant and Liaison to the Governor of Bauchi State since 2019, describing him as a trusted bridge between the state and the Federal Government.

She added that, beyond the listed positions, the House of Representatives hopeful has remained actively involved in community service and other public responsibilities.

AbdulRahaman said Grema’s record reflects sustained grassroots representation, practical experience in education and poverty alleviation, as well as strong political relationships across Northern Nigeria.

She urged voters in the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency to disregard what she described as unfounded attacks against the candidate, arguing that the constituency requires experienced leadership capable of delivering results.

Grema is seeking election to represent the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general election.
