NEWS SPOTLIGHT ON: “CONTRIBUTING TO THE GROWTH OF PLATEAU STATE UNIVERSITY, BOKKOS: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR NENGAK GOMOS IN PERSPECTIVE AS HE EXIT OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR ADMINISTRATION”
Associate Professor Nengak Jurji Gomos is a replica of a true leader who commit himself to a pure service to God and humanity.
Gomos was born on 28th September, 1964 in Ner, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He was one of the pioneer staff of the university when the institution kick started fully, the academic activities in 2011 after being in the state of comatose for six years.
Professor Nenfort Gomwalk who was the second Vice Chancellor of the University then, saw the potentials in him, and was appointed as the head of Department, Sociology.
He set the ball rolling by putting the department set which led to a successful staff verification by the National Universities Commission as well as the accreditation.
The management of the University later discovered the charismatic style of leadership Gomos displayed, as Head of the Department, appointed him the Dean, of Student Affairs from 2018 to 2019
He was known for his diplomatic way of handling issues with students of the university, which also brought peace and tranquility between the land owners and the university community
Associate Professor Nengak Jurji Gomos believe in dialogue and always adopt it as a method of mitigating conflict.
With all of these, the Senate of the University, appointed him in 2019 to 2021 as the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration for the first term and later served his second tenure from 2021 to 2024.
He is currently the Vice President, Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association, Northern Zone of Nigeria.
Now that his tenure as the Deputy Vice Chancellor ended on the 26th of October 2024, the University Community and also, host community will missed him.
One of the major things that Associate Professor Nengak Jurji Gomos will be remembered for is his dedication to duty and self discipline which is lacking today in work place.
Associate professor Nengak Jurji Gomos is an example of who a typical civil servant should be.
He is always punctual at occasions and also at work.
Gomos tried to instilled those values to staff and students which is one of the spirit of a true Plateau.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Plateau State University Bokkos, Professor Shedrack Best during the valedictory session in honour of the outgone Deputy Vice chancellor, acknowledges his commitment and dedication to duty who’s service will be missed.
The university has nothing to lose as Senate has appointed another vibrant academician Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba in the place of Gomos.
He has also held several positions from his tribe the Ngas Community and a receipient of many awards and commendation.
Among many awards he received is that of a Fellow of Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association (NASA) and Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria (PROHAN).
Associate Professor Nengak Jurji Gomos has contributed immensely to the society.
Now is the time for the university community to accord Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba the necessary support she need for the progress of Plateau State University Bokkos.
The Acting Vice Chancellor and indeed, the entire University Community congratulates Associate Professor Nengak Jurji Gomos for his meritorious service to the the University.
