NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT HALTS DISCIPLINARY ACTION AGAINST IBBUL PROTESTERS

Lapai, Niger State – Tuesday, June 24, 2025

The Niger State Government has directed the management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), not to take disciplinary action against students who recently protested the alleged murder of their colleague.

The directive came in response to reports that the university authorities were considering sanctions against students involved in the demonstration. The state government emphasized that the students were exercising their right to peaceful protest in response to a tragic incident that deeply affected the university community.

Officials from the Ministry of Tertiary Education stated that dialogue and understanding should take precedence over punitive measures, especially given the emotional context of the protest.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to justice for the slain student and assured that investigations are ongoing to bring the perpetrators to book. It further urged the university administration to work closely with student leaders to ensure peace and prevent future breakdowns in communication.
