NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT TO BUILD A STADIUM IN EACH OF THE 25 LGAs OF THE STATE TO BOOST GRASSROOTS SPORTING ACTIVITIES

Niger State Government is to build a stadium in each of the 25 Local Government Areas of the State, to boost sporting activities at the grassroots.

Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, disclosed this at the Finals of the 45th edition of the Governor’s Cup Football Competition held at the IBBU Lapai Kobo Campus football field in Lapai.

The Final match was between Lapai United and Lavun United, where the Lapai United won the match with 3 goals to nothing, to win the trophy of the Competition.

Farmer Governor Umaru Bago said the pilot project of the Stadium will be in Lapai local government area being the winning local government area.

He described the Competition as historic, pointing out that the stadia when constructed in all Local Government Areas would curb youth restiveness.

While congratulating the winning team, for its outstanding performance, the Farmer Governor also encouraged all the opponents to exhibit the Spirit of sportsmanship.

The Farmer Governor then announce the donation of N5m to Suleja United, as the third place finishers, N10m to the Lavun United as runners-up and N20m to the winners, Lapai United.

He also gave N10m and a Bus to the Niger State Football Association, the organiser of the competition and advocated that the next competition should be hosted in Niger North Senatorial District.

Trophies and medals were presented to the 3rd, 2nd and 1st placed teams, while the highest goalscorer, most valuable player and best Goalkeeper of the competition also received awards for their outstanding performance.

Prominent guests, including the Farmer Governor Umaru Bago, Emir of Lapai Alh. Umaru Bago Tafida III, Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, Secretary to the State Government Abubakar Usman all received merit awards.

Football teams in all the 25 Local Government Areas of the State participated in the 45th edition of the Governor’s Cup.
