MAKE DELIBERATE EFFORTS TO BRIDGE THE EDUCATION GAP IN NIGER NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT, FARMER GOV. UMARU BAGO TELLS UNIVERSITY GOVERNING BODY

Niger State Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has called on the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education (FUE) Kontagora, to be deliberate about education in Niger North Senatorial District of the State.

Farmer Governor Umaru Bago made the call when he received members of the Governing Council and Management team of the University at the Government House, Minna.

He noted that there is a wide gap in the Niger North Senatorial District of the state in terms of education, suggesting that the institution can establish short-term courses to bridge the gap.

The farmer Governor said the Federal University of Kontagora should serve as a mentor to other institutions around the zone.

While assuring them of state government continuous support to the institution, farmer Governor Umaru Bago directed the Chairman of the New Niger Development Project, and the Commissioner for Works, to liaise with the University for the construction of 3 km access road to the institution.

Earlier the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education Kontagora, Prof. Francis Adedayo Faduyile, lauded the pivotal role the Farmer Governor played in the conversion of the institution to a Federal University.

Prof. Faduyile announced that the university has named its 1,000-capacity lecture theatre as Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago Lecture Theatre and also named one of the female hostels after the First Lady of the state, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago.

The Chairman explained that naming of the lecture theatre and female hostel after the farmer Governor and his wife was due to the governor’s vision of revamping education, which he said aligns with the vision of the institution.

He also disclosed that the university has allocated over 15 hectares of land to complement the agricultural agenda of the present administration aimed at feeding the nation, and appealed for fertiliser and other farm inputs.

Prof. Faduyile pledged to continue to collaborate with the state government in achieving the desired objective.
