PRESS STATEMENT

North Central Youth alliance appeals to Prof Amupitan to obey court ruling and the Rule of Law

The attention of North Central Youth alliance has been drawn to the ongoing and rather unnecessary call by some elements within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) demanding the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Amupitan, over his decision to comply with the ruling of the Court of Appeal concerning the internal leadership dispute within the party.

As law-abiding citizens and defenders of democratic institutions, we find the position of the ADC both unfortunate and deeply troubling. It is important to remind the public that the Independent National Electoral Commission, as a constitutional body, is duty-bound to obey and implement valid court orders. Compliance with the judgment of the Court of Appeal is not an act of bias, favoritism, or political interference; rather, it is a clear demonstration of respect for the rule of law which remains the bedrock of our democracy.

The attempt by the ADC to shift the blame for its internal crisis onto the shoulders of the INEC Chairman reflects a disturbing level of carelessness in the way the party has managed its internal affairs. Political parties are expected to maintain discipline, transparency, and adherence to due process in resolving their disputes. When such matters escalate to the courts and judgments are delivered, responsible leadership demands acceptance of the verdict rather than launching unwarranted attacks on institutions of state.

We therefore strongly condemn the campaign calling for the resignation of Professor Amupitan. Such calls are not only baseless but also capable of undermining public confidence in our democratic institutions. No public official should be vilified for simply carrying out his constitutional responsibility.

Furthermore, we urge the leadership of the ADC to redirect their energy towards resolving their internal disagreements through lawful and democratic means instead of attempting to drag the electoral umpire into their party’s administrative lapses.

The independence of INEC must be protected at all times. Nigeria’s democracy can only grow stronger when institutions are allowed to function without intimidation, blackmail, or politically motivated attacks.

North Central Youth alliance therefore reiterates its unwavering support for the INEC Chairman in his commitment to uphold the rule of law and respect judicial pronouncements.

Nigeria must always remain a nation where court judgments are obeyed and democratic institutions are respected.

Signed:*Comrade Tijani* Usman National Coordinator For and on behalf of North Central Youth alliance
