Kogi Launches Landmark School Renewal Drive as Education Commissioner Wemi Jones Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to Transforming Learning Through Strategic, Sustainable Investments

Lokoja, Kogi State — In a bold move to reposition the education sector, the Kogi State Government has officially flagged off a sweeping school renovation initiative aimed at revitalizing learning infrastructure and strengthening human capital development across the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to transforming the education landscape through strategic and sustainable investments. He noted that the ongoing renovation of 728 government-owned schools represents a deliberate effort to secure a brighter future for Kogi’s children.

According to the Commissioner, the pilot phase covering 150 schools underscores the administration’s readiness, efficiency, and urgency in delivering impactful educational reforms. He emphasized that improved learning environments are critical to enhancing student performance, boosting teacher morale, and restoring community confidence in public education.

Hon. Jones expressed profound appreciation to the State Project Coordinator (SPC) and the entire State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) team for their dedication, professionalism, and relentless drive in bringing the initiative to fruition. He also commended the Accountant General and the Head of the Public Financial Management Unit (PFMU) for ensuring strong financial coordination, transparency, and accountability throughout the process.

Highlighting the broader significance of the initiative, he stressed that the project aligns with the government’s overarching goals of promoting equity, expanding access, and delivering quality education across all parts of the state.

The Commissioner charged key stakeholders, particularly School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), to take full ownership of the projects within their communities. He emphasized the need for accountability, transparency, and prudent utilization of funds already disbursed. He further urged Technical Service Providers (TSPs) to maintain high standards, adhere strictly to project timelines, and ensure quality delivery.

Calling for synergy among all parties, Hon. Jones encouraged robust collaboration between communities, contractors, and government agencies to guarantee the success of the initiative.

He assured stakeholders of sustained government support to ensure that the education system remains inclusive, resilient, and future-ready. Reiterating the administration’s resolve, he declared that the initiative marks a significant step toward transforming education and securing better opportunities for every child in Kogi State.

The Commissioner concluded by thanking all partners and stakeholders for their continued commitment and officially declared the school renovation initiative open.
