NORTH CENTRAL YOUTH KICK AGAINST THE SUPPORT FOR SHARIAH COUNCIL POSITION ON THE APPOINTMENT OF PROFESSOR JOASH AMUPITAN as INEC CHAIRMAN.
The North Central Youth Leaders Alliance (NCYLA) has once again issued a stern warning to the Northern Youth Group backing the Shariah Council’s call for the removal of the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan.
In a statement, NCYLA strongly condemns the move, distancing itself from the demand and urging the Shariah Council to focus on matters of faith and insecurity situation facing the region rather than meddling with constitutional processes of appointment of a National Institution.
“The Shariah Council should face the issue of faith, not politics,” the statement read. “Subverting the electioneering process is unacceptable.
We will not stand idly by while extremists undermine our democracy.”
NCYLA reaffirms its support for INEC and Professor Amupitan, pledging to defend the commission’s independence and autonomy.
We as a progressYouth Leaders from North Central, Nigeria dissociate ourselves from the inordinate call and we wanted the so called Northern Youth Group to clearly state their base and to stop using Northern Youth Group nomenclature because we are Northern Youth Group and on no occasion we agreed to back the inordinate call at this material time in the process of Nigeria preparation for a crucial general elections.
We call on all relevant government organs, particularly the National Assembly, to immediately rebuke this unfounded campaign in the interest of peace, fairness, and justice.
At this juncture, we would not in whatever format or under whatever guise allow the North Central Geopolitical zone to be short-changed in this malicious and satanic manoeuvring.
Signed,
Comrade Tijani Usman
National President, NCYLA.
