By Our Correspondent
The Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Kogi State chapter, has congratulated the 21 Local Government Area chairmen and all councillors elected and re-elected in the state’s October 17, 2026, local government elections.
The Congress also commended the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) and security agencies for their roles in the conduct of the elections, particularly in maintaining peace and order throughout the exercise.
In a congratulatory statement, the organisation, led by its State Chairman, Comrade Oloruntoba Moses Juwon, expressed appreciation to KOSIEC for overseeing the electoral process and the security agencies for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere.
The Congress urged the elected and re-elected local government chairmen and councillors to regard their renewed mandates as a call to service and a responsibility to improve the lives of the people at the grassroots.
It called on the local government officials to embrace accountability, inclusive governance and people-oriented leadership, stressing the need for policies and programmes that address the pressing needs of their respective communities.
According to the statement, priority should be given to youth empowerment, employment generation, infrastructure development, education and improved welfare for residents across the 21 local government areas of the state.
The NYC emphasised that local governments have a critical role to play in promoting grassroots development and creating opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to the growth of their communities.
The Congress further reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, good governance and meaningful youth participation in the political and developmental affairs of Kogi State.
It expressed the expectation that the newly elected and returning officials would justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate through responsible leadership, effective service delivery and programmes that respond to the needs of the people.
The statement was signed by Comrade Olupinla Oyeniyi, Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Youth Congress, Kogi State.
