Obaro Christopher Olorunmola Foundation Brings Yuletide Cheer to 100 Widows

By: Elizabeth Christopher.

The Obaro Christopher Olorunmola Foundation has donated food items to about 100 widows in the community to cushion the impact of the economy on them

This event was held in honor of the late Oba Christopher S. Olorunmola and his enduring contributions to peace, education, community health, and human rights in Odo-Ape, Kabba/Bunu, Kogi State.

At the launch of the Foundation, Prince Matthew Olorunmola expressed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the well-being and empowerment of widows and other vulnerable members of society. He emphasized, “The Foundation is dedicated to their well-being and empowerment. This initiative reflects the late Oba C. S. Olorunmola’s deep sense of generosity and his lifelong dedication to uplifting the most vulnerable.”

Prince Olorunmola also noted, “This new initiative aims to carry forward the impactful legacy of the late Oba, who was known for his unwavering commitment to the well-being of his family, community, and the wider society.”

Some beneficiaries, reminiscing about the impact of the late monarch, shared how Oba Christopher Olorunmola had supported them with foodstuff, making life easier for them during his reign.

“Kabiesi was my husband’s employer. Each time my husband was away on assignment, he ensured we had food to eat. He would ask my son to come and take enough food for us,” one widow recalled.

Another widow shared, “My children were schooling in Iyara, and I needed money for transport. I told Baba, and not only did he give me the transport money, but he also instructed his driver to take me to Kabba, where he gave me money to shop for my child and sent additional funds to him.”

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, praying for the repose of the monarch’s soul and for the continued strength of his family.

In her remarks, Omooba Elizabeth Christopher disclosed that the Foundation will focus on key areas of community development, including education, the empowerment of widows, care for orphans, and the promotion of human rights.

“We hope to achieve these goals by leveraging both personal resources and external funding through grants, donations, and fundraising events. The Foundation is poised to make a meaningful difference in the lives of indigent citizens and to foster a prosperous and healthy community,” she stated.

Obaro Christopher Olorunmola reigned as the Obaro of Odo-Ape from 1994 to 2008 with integrity, wisdom, fairness, empathy, compassion, generosity, and unwavering support for the most vulnerable members of society.
