Okun Development Initiative Condemns Killing of Security Operatives, Calls for Decisive Action

The Okun Development Initiative (ODI) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent bandit attacks in the Kogi West Senatorial District, which resulted in the death of three police officers and two vigilantes.

The organization, in a statement released by its National Coordinator, Deacon Olusuyi Otitoju, described the killings as a heinous act and a significant setback in the fight against crime in the region.

Deacon Otitoju acknowledged and commended the efforts of both the federal and state governments in combating insecurity.

He noted the improved security architecture and the dedication of security agencies but emphasized that the recent attacks highlight an urgent need for more decisive action to curb the upsurge in kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The statement urged the government to redouble its efforts and implement new strategies to protect the lives and property of the Okun people.

In his appeal to the community, Otitoju called on residents to cooperate with and support government and security agencies.

He stressed that the fight against banditry and kidnapping is a collective responsibility and that intelligence sharing and community vigilance are crucial for success.

The ODI’s statement concluded with a message of condolence to the families of the slain security operatives.

Deacon Otitoju prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and asked for strength for their families to bear the irreparable loss.

He reiterated the organization’s commitment to the development and security of the Okun land and its people.
