One Year In Office: Abeke Reaffirms Vision ,Partnership for a Greater Sapele Local Govt.

By Wilson Macaulay – Sapele, August 6, 2025

In a stirring ceremony held at the Sapele Local Government Secretariat, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke, Executive Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, marked the first anniversary of his tenure. With residents, dignitaries, community leaders, religious figures, party executives, and the press in attendance, the event was a celebration of progress, prayer, and partnership.

The atmosphere brimmed with jubilation as Hon. Abeke took center stage, greeting the gathering with heartfelt thanks to his wife, Chief Mrs. Diana Abeke; the Vice Chairman; councillors; leaders of the APC; traditional and religious authorities; and members of the press. Acknowledging their pivotal roles, he said:

> “It is with profound humility and immense gratitude that I address you today—not just to mark the passage of time, but to celebrate shared progress and the unwavering spirit of our people.”

Chairman Abeke attributed his ability to lead effectively over the past twelve months to divine favor:

> “First and foremost, I give all glory to God Almighty for His divine guidance and strength. Without His grace, this journey would have been insurmountable.”

He also extended special appreciation to state leadership, particularly His Excellency, RT Hon Sheriff Oborevwori The Governor of Delta State —the “Duke of the MORE Agenda”—for his people-centered governance and developmental vision.

> “Your trust and steadfast support have enabled us to pursue our vision for a more prosperous Sapele.”

Highlighting key milestones, Abeke reflected with pride on twelve months dedicated to building infrastructure and reigniting community hope:

Initiating transformative local projects, from healthcare, education, roadworks, to youth empowerment initiatives.

Emphasizing community-driven governance, where development emerged from the needs voiced by citizens.

Building institutional integrity, transparency, and administrative accountability.

> “Each initiative has been born from the voices of the people and executed with their welfare at heart.”

Though achievements were celebrated, Abeke emphasized that the journey ahead remains demanding.

> “Rome was not built in a day.” His callous tone reminded all that sustained effort, unity, and divine guidance are essential to realize his grand vision for Sapele.

He urged traditional leaders, youth groups, women’s organizations, private sector stakeholders, and local officials to remain united in forging lasting progress.

> “Only together can we overcome challenges and restore Sapele to its rightful place of envy and glamour.”

Chairman Abeke portrayed Sapele’s true wealth not as resources but its resilient people—people he asserted are capable of driving lasting change through ingenuity and solidarity. He believes these attributes can reposition Sapele as a beacon of regional excellence.

The ceremony concluded with recognition awards and tokens of appreciation. Gifts were presented to outstanding individuals and community groups whose dedication reflected the administration’s values of service and civic partnership.

In his closing remarks, Abeke offered profound thanks to all who have journeyed with his administration—whether through encouragement, constructive criticism, or collaboration.

> “Let us move forward with renewed hope, unwavering faith, and a shared commitment to building a brighter, more prosperous Sapele.

Chairman Abeke’s anniversary celebration was more than a retrospective—it was a clarion call to collective action. As the Sapele community witnessed the first year of his leadership, his message is clear: unity, faith, and partnership are the bedrocks upon which greater glory will be built.
He emphasized the need for the people to support the Renewed Hope for MORE
Agenda Project come 2027
