Open Letter to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu: Urgent Action Needed on the Proposed National Protest

Dear President Ahmed Bola Tinubu,

I am writing to you in my capacity as the Director General of the Progressive Amalgamation of Northern Nigeria (PANN) to urgently call for your immediate intervention and address to the nation concerning the rising tensions and the proposed national protest.

The recent decision to remove the fuel subsidy has triggered widespread unrest and concerns across the country. The potential impact of this decision on the cost of living for the average Nigerian is profound, with the current fuel price being untenable for many. We urge you to consider measures that will bring down the fuel price to #170 per liter, which will significantly alleviate the economic burden on our citizens.

In addition, we call upon your administration to take the following urgent actions:

Open All Our Borders: The closure of our borders has had a detrimental effect on trade and the availability of essential goods. Reopening them will stimulate economic activity, reduce inflation, and improve the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians who depend on cross-border trade.

Remove Taxes on Foodstuffs: The taxation on food items has made basic necessities unaffordable for many Nigerians. Eliminating these taxes will ensure that all citizens have access to affordable food, thus addressing hunger and malnutrition.

Tackle Insecurity: The pervasive insecurity across the nation remains a significant concern. We urge you to strengthen our security apparatus, invest in intelligence, and work collaboratively with community leaders to restore peace and safety in our communities.

Fight Corruption: Corruption within government corridors continues to erode public trust and hinder development. We implore you to take decisive action against corrupt practices, ensuring transparency and accountability in all levels of government.

Mr. President, the concerns of the citizens are valid, and their voices must be heard. Your leadership in addressing these critical issues will not only restore confidence in your administration but also pave the way for a more prosperous and stable Nigeria.

In light of the current situation, I am writing to underscore the urgent need for you to not only address the nation through a broadcast but to also implement the necessary measures immediately following your address. This proactive approach is critical in preventing the planned protests and ensuring public order.

The citizens are anxiously awaiting your reassurance and decisive action. Your immediate intervention will demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing their concerns and will play a crucial role in calming the situation.

Given the urgency of the matter, I strongly urge you to make the broadcast and take the necessary actions without delay. This will prevent the situation from escalating and will help maintain peace and stability in the nation.

We trust in your commitment to the welfare of our nation and look forward to your prompt action on these matters.

Yours sincerely,
Hon. Bala Salihu Dawakin kudu
Director General
Progressive Amalgamation of Northern Nigeria (PANN)
