Opinion: The Future Will Ask What We Did With This Opportunity.
By Abdul Mohammed Lawal.
As is often less discussed than it should be, every generation is measured not by what it promised, but by what it delivered. Politicking will never stop, and slogans will continue to come years after years, but what truly matters is whether we are ready to embrace a change in the status quo, both as individuals and as a collective. Every election year shouldn’t be remembered for its slogans, but for the decisions that influence communities for decades.
Kogi East is at one of such important moments, where posterity should guide our decision. The choices we make now will define the future of our youth, our farmers, our small businesses, and our communities for years to come.
How much risk are we ready to take, and who are we willing to stand firmly behind?
What do we truly need as a people, and do we believe that continuing with the current approach will produce the mindset and leadership evolution we seek in the region?
How do we make Kogi East great again?
Right now, we have a chance to do it differently if we choose to get it right. Let’s look at Mahmoud Bala Alfa, Ph.D. for instance.
Alfa has spent the last two decades preparing for this moment, long even before fortune smiled at him. From international finance in the UAE and the United Kingdom to policy reform, infrastructure advisory, renewable energy projects, and governance improvements across Nigeria, he has built the expertise to act where it matters most. His career has been measurable across every sphere he touched because of the practical solutions and impact it has delivered.
But like they say, preparation alone is not enough. Leadership requires the courage to act decisively, the wisdom to prioritise, and the discipline to remain accountable. No Kogi Easterner in this generation combines these traits better than Mahmoud Bala Alfa does today.
The Senate seat for Kogi East is not merely a platform for prestige or political visibility anymore. It is the region’s most viable tool to ensure that federal resources reach communities effectively, translate national economic policies into local opportunities, unlock programmes for youth development and entrepreneurship, support rural electrification, agriculture, and infrastructure, and advocate for reforms that strengthen transparency and accountability.
The specialized work of the last eighteen months built Alfa for this. He combines global credibility with an understanding of Kogi East’s realities. He understands the challenges our communities face, and more importantly, he understands how to address them in a structured and practical manner. It’s a part of his process.
In both his private and public work life, every project he has led, every policy he has advised on, and every investment model he has designed reflects a philosophy that leadership must be functional, measurable, and future-focused. That is why he commands respect within leadership circles across Nigeria.
Have you seen the passion with which he explains his vision for Kogi East? Have you observed the clarity and precision in his thinking? Have you noticed the confidence and purpose in his carriage as a young Igalaman? Have you had the opportunity to sit with him and experience the depth of his mindset?
Mahmoud Bala Alfa, Ph.D, represents a quality of leadership that Igala and Bassa politics have not seen in a long time.
You may not yet have experienced Mahmoud firsthand, but this is the moment to do so. We must have posterity at the back of our minds and answer to this: When history looks back at this time, will Kogi East be able to say it seized the opportunity? Or will this be remembered as another season of missed potential? The future will ask what we did with this opportunity to rewrite our leadership story and build the kind of future our region deserves.
In Mahmoud Bala Alfa’s candidacy, this is not about power for its own sake. It is about purpose, influence, and a case for effective representation. It is about ensuring that Kogi East’s voice is heard clearly in Abuja, that its opportunities are unlocked locally, and that its development is sustained over the long term.
The opportunity is before us. The responsibility is ours.
And the choice we make will define the legacy of our generation.
Welcome to the journey of building “Kogi East Beyond Promises.”
