In line with Deputy Senate President (DSP) Senator Barau I. Jibrin’s vision to expand access to university education across the 44 local government areas (LGAs) of Kano State, he has announced that final arrangements have been concluded with the management of the Federal University, Dutsin-ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, to establish seven new study centres in Kano Central and Kano South Senatorial Districts. This initiative, being implemented through the B.I.J Foundation, is a testament to his unwavering commitment to educational development in the state.
Last year, Senator Barau successfully established four study centres in Gwarzo, Danbatta, Dawakin Tofa, and Gabasawa LGAs, all in Kano North Senatorial District. These centres have already provided over 1,000 young men and women with the opportunity to pursue degree programs in various disciplines, significantly bridging the educational gap in the region.
To further expand educational opportunities, Senator Barau has now secured approval for the establishment of seven additional study centres in Madobi, Kiru, Tudun Wada, Rano, Gaya, Dawakin Kudu, and Minjibir LGAs. These centres will offer a variety of degree and diploma programs from FUDMA, further boosting access to higher education in Kano Central and South Senatorial Districts.
Additionally, to ensure wider participation, Senator Barau is offering scholarships to 1,000 students from Kano Central and South to pursue degree programs in ICT-related fields at the newly established FUDMA study centres. This initiative aims to empower Kano’s youth with essential digital skills, enabling them to thrive in the modern economy and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Kano State.
Education remains the bedrock of national development, and Senator Barau remains deeply committed to ensuring that young people across all 44 LGAs of Kano State have access to quality university education. The establishment of these new centres marks another significant milestone in his mission to equip Kano’s youth with the knowledge and skills needed to drive the state’s progress and prosperity.
Senator Barau expressed his profound appreciation to the management of Federal University, Dutsin-ma, for their collaboration and support in making this vision a reality. He also called on community leaders, parents, and students to take full advantage of this transformational opportunity, which will further strengthen the educational sector and secure a brighter future for the next generation.
“Together, we will build a more educated, prosperous, and forward-thinking Kano State,” Senator Barau affirmed.
