PAAU VC REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO CAMPUS SECURITY, HOSTS COMMANDING OFFICER 21 BATTALION, ANYIGBA

The Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, on Monday, 9th March, 2026, received a courtesy visit from the Commanding Officer of 21 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Anyigba, Lt. Col. Godiya Solomon Monday, to discuss security measures and strengthen collaboration aimed at ensuring a safe and agreeable learning environment within the university community.

The meeting provided the university management the opportunity to engage directly with the Nigerian Army commanding officer, as Prof. Usman reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to campus security and the safety of students, staff and the Anyigba community.

Speaking during the session, Prof. Usman commended the Nigerian Army for its proactive efforts in maintaining safety within the town and on campus.

He emphasised that security remains a top priority of his administration, and disclosed that a visibility study had been initiated to identify “flash areas” where crimes and other security breaches had been reported.

He stressed the importance of fostering a strong relationship between the university and the army, explaining that with collaboration and coordinated efforts, cultism, cult-related activities and other social vices would be brought to an end.

As part of decisive measures, Prof. Usman reaffirmed the ban on “sign-out celebration” within the campus, while allowing Final Year Brethren (FYB) Week celebrations to continue under proper regulation and institutional guidelines.

“No compromise will be made on security matters. We are determined to provide a secure atmosphere for learning and research, and to protect the welfare of our staff and students,” he stated.

In his response, Lt. Col. Godiya Solomon Monday assured the Vice-Chancellor that the battalion remains fully committed to safeguarding the university community.

He disclosed that the battalion had a permanent site within the university community, and that ongoing improvements were being undertaken to enhance security infrastructure and operational readiness.

“We are doing our best to ensure that the university environment remains safe for everyone. With coordinated efforts and regular engagement with the university management, incidents of crime and cult-related activities can be effectively curtailed,” he said.

The meeting concluded with both parties pledging continued collaboration and mutual support, reaffirming their shared commitment to maintaining a secure environment that would be conducive to academic, administrative and social activities on the PAAU campus.

The meeting was attended by principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. J.J. Orugun; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Ojah Paul Egwemi; Registrar, Barr. Yahaya S. Alilu; and University Librarian, Dr. Oladimeji Yemi-Peters.
