The visit was to congratulate Prof. Usman on his appointment as the sixth (6th) substantive Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, and to commend the remarkable progress recorded by his administration since assuming office on 11th February, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Shehu described the Vice-Chancellor as a progressive, visionary and result-oriented administrator whose leadership qualities had continued to inspire confidence.

He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for granting his delegation audience despite his demanding academic and administrative schedules, describing the gesture as a demonstration of humility, commitment and exemplary leadership.

The Chief Medical Director stated that the Federal Teaching Hospital was ready to partner with the University by providing the necessary human and material resources required for the successful development of its medical programmes.

He assured the University of the Hospital’s readiness to support the clinical training of medical students and provide the professional guidance required to facilitate the successful production of the University’s first set of medical doctors.

Dr. Shehu proposed the establishment of a Joint Advisory Committee comprising representatives of both institutions to interface with relevant stakeholders, coordinate collaborative initiatives and ensure the successful implementation of the partnership.

He expressed confidence that the collaboration would strengthen medical education, research, manpower development and healthcare delivery while contributing meaningfully to the advancement of Prince Abubakar Audu University in particular, and Kogi State in general.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, expressed profound appreciation to the Chief Medical Director and his management team for the visit and the goodwill extended to the University.

He congratulated Dr. Shehu on his appointment as the second (2nd) substantive Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and urged him to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessors through innovation, creativity and purposeful leadership.

Prof. Usman commended Dr. Shehu for his humility and commitment to institutional partnership, describing the proposed collaboration as timely and strategic to the growth of the University’s College of Health Sciences.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Prof. Marietu Ohunene Tenuche, for laying a solid foundation for the College of Health Sciences, particularly the successful accreditation of the MBBS programme by the National Universities Commission (NUC), which he said had positioned the University for the successful training of medical professionals.

He reaffirmed the readiness of the University Management to embrace meaningful partnerships capable of strengthening teaching, research, clinical training and healthcare services, noting that such collaborations would remain critical to the attainment of academic excellence.

Prof. Usman also expressed appreciation to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, and the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their continued support, encouragement and sustained commitment to the advancement of Prince Abubakar Audu University, which has continued to drive institutional growth, stability and transformation.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of copies of the maiden edition of the PAAU Bulletin to the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, by the Vice-Chancellor.
