Police Train Youths on Leadership and Security Responsibility.
The Plateau state Police Command, in her efforts to creat awareness and equip the Youths with necessary security skills organized a one day workshop in conjunction with the leadership of the Afizere Youth Movement (AYM) Jos North LGA.
The event took place at the Izere Arena Gwafan(Lamingo). The participants came from the various Districts and Villages of Izere Nation of Jos North LGA, they include Dong,Kabong,Gwash,Kwanga,Fudawa,Nukpis,Gwafan,Rikkos,Furaka,Tudun Wada and Jos Jarawa.
In his presentation,the Plateau state Commissioner of Police,represented by the Police Public Relations Officer,DSP Afraid Alabo said leadership is full of responsibilities and a good leader must be a good listener and a planner,leaders are not rulers because rulers are authoritative in nature.
All help security groups such as Vigilante,Hunters, Neighbourhood etc are leaders in their respective communities,they are arbitrators and security work is full of orders and be willing to take orders and instructions.
Said Charismatic leadership and discipline should be good virtues they need to adopt as leaders and securities.
The Police Commissioner also challenges the leaders and security on the rampant cases of rape in their communities and should do everything possible to fish such criminals out of their communities.
He also reminded them of their roles and boundaries,they can make arrest and hand over the suspects immediately to the Police base on section section 41 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2018 of Plateau state. They lack powers to detain and investigate,only the Nigeria Police that is empowered by the Constitution to do that.
The Police Boss also employed them to report cases of murder and other criminality to the Police.
The Issue of Community Policing was one of the topics of the workshop.
He described community Police as a strategy that allows the Police to partner with agencies and Communities to work together to solve problems of crime. Or partnering of Police with the Communities to fight crime and other deviant behaviours in the society.
The P.P.R.O enjoined all the Communities to adopt the community Police and reduce crimes in their communities.
The Highlights of the event was questions and Answers from the participants ranging from bail and collection of bribes by the men of Nigerian Police among others.
Good will messages came from Chairman of Afizere Youth Movement Chairman of Jos North, Comrade Philip Israel Isha, he encourage all the participants to put into practice what they have learnt and rid all the Izere Communities in Jos North and her neighbors all forms of criminalities ranging from Attacks from Dong Axis,Kidnapping,Cultism among others in other Districts.
In his message,Vice President of AYM,Azi Peter Aware commended the AYM in Jos North LGA and the State Police Command for such a remarkable program that impacted positively not only on the Youths or Izere Nation but the society at large and call for sustainability of the program because security is everybody’s business.
