PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2027: WILL NIGERIA AGAIN TAKE THE RISK OF TRIAL AND ERROR IN THE CHOICE OF LEADERSHIP WHO FIXES HER TERRIBLY DAMAGED AND FRAGILE FABRICS ?
By Musa Bakare
As Nigeria approaches another defining moment in its democratic journey, the 2027 presidential election the question that looms large is this: Can the nation afford the risk of another trial-and-error presidency in the delicate task of rebuilding her broken and fragile fabrics?
For decades, Nigeria has grappled with regional tensions, economic instability, insecurity, and a steadily declining sense of national unity. Everyone including the leaders themselves blames leadership shortfall as the major reason for her woes. The result has been a deeply fragmented nation teetering on the edge of disillusionment.
However, since the year 2023, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, there has been a noticeable shift, a bold and determined attempt to rescue Nigeria from the precipice.
President Tinubu came into office with a clear vision anchored on his party’s Renewed Hope agenda. He promised pragmatic reforms, competent leadership, inclusive governance, and a renewed commitment to national unity.
Nigerians, wearied by years of failed promises and leadership shortfalls, saw in him a credible alternative, one that could restore direction and discipline to a nation in dire need of healing.
Upon assuming office, President Tinubu met a nation in crisis. The economy was suffocating under the weight of corruption, inflation, unemployment, and years of structural decay. Ethno-religious tensions were rife, with recurring conflicts threatening the very fragile fabric. The youth, disenchanted and abandoned, had either withdrawn into apathy or joined the wave of emigration in search of better opportunities, some gone the way of yahoo yahoo.
Against this bleak backdrop, President Tinubu’s government rose to the occasion. With a blend of experience, decisiveness, and reformist zeal, he began confronting the country’s most pressing challenges head-on. His administration has demonstrated the political will to tackle critical national issues, laying the groundwork for economic recovery, improving security, and restoring faith in democratic leadership.
As we look ahead to 2027, the danger of reversing these fragile gains cannot be overstated. Electing another desperate, untested, or unprepared leader could unravel the focused and painstaking progress made under President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress. God forbid, it may accelerate the disintegration of Nigeria’s already strained unity.
Politics or no politics, supporting President Tinubu for a second term is not and cannot be a betrayal of any platform or interest; it is a personal commitment to the fact that Nigeria must survive in the interest of the unborn Nigerians.
This is not a partisan appeal, nor is it a pessimistic forecast. It is a sober call to national reflection. Nigerians must earnestly reject the deceit of politicians bent on keeping the country down and massively renew the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu come 2027.
Leadership in today’s Nigeria must go beyond rhetoric and personal ambition, it must be grounded in competence, patriotism, and a genuine understanding of the nation’s complex realities.
As citizens and stakeholders in Nigeria’s future, we must ask ourselves: Are we ready to gamble again with the fate of this great country by handing it over to corrupt, money driven politicians and their self-serving political parties ?
The answer must be clear and deliberate. Nigeria can no longer afford trial-and-error experiment in leadership.
